Task:

A comprehensive capability assessment

“What gets measured is what gets done”. In today’s results driven environment, most organisations that invest in KM, track how many people are participating, how well the tools and approaches are working, and whether KM is generating a positive return on investment (ROI).

Effective KM depends upon a coherent, integrated approach that includes management techniques, strategy development, collaboration elements (people), content management, knowledge capture, sharing and learning processes, that support content and technology.

The need for organisation to “know what it knows” has become an imperative and not simply a “nice to have” capability. It is important to consider multiple categories of measures when evaluating organisation's KM capability. For that reason, a KM Capability Assessment Tool (KM-CAST), broken down into 6 discrete, actionable categories and 69 measurement attributes (presented as a survey instrument in Appendix 1 of this report), was adopted to provide opportunities to both assess, focus its KM efforts as well as to prioritize how those actions will increase organisation’s overall KM capability effectively.

The KM-CAST offers a rigorous way to measure and evaluate organisation's KM approaches, processes, and tools. Based on our five-step maturity model, we can identify the maturity level of an organisation’s KM programs and assess levels of competency and opportunities to move from immature, inconsistent activities to disciplined ones that support VOX’s business imperatives. With KM-CAST, we can identify the maturity level that best characterizes organisation's KM program and determine suggestions on how to advance to the next level.

This assessment will help you understand where your biggest gaps are and where you need to focus your attention in order to advance the goals of your KM effort. A representative will also sit down with you to talk about your ranking and help you figure out the next steps for progression.
